2.3: Displaying the contents of the MAC Address Table
The switch uses the MAC Address table to forward traffic between ports. These tables include dynamic and static addresses.
The following command can be used from the PRIVILEGE EXEC Mode Switch#'
SHOW MAC-ADDRESS-TABLE
This will display the contents of the Switch MAC Address table held in RAM. The
SHOW MAC-ADDRESS-TABLE DYNAMIC command will show the dynamically learned MAC addresses and can be used as an alternative or SHOW MAC-ADDRESS-TABLE STATIC command will show the statically assigned MAC addresses
Dynamic source MAC addresses are learnt by the switch and then dropped when not in use. All addresses are aged from the table after a predetermined time.
The previous screen shot shows the MAC Address table on a 2950 Switch connected via interface Fa0/7 to a PC with the dynamically learned MAC Address of 0002.e316.f35c.
